One of the real pleasures of visiting Los Angeles is the chance to go shopping. There are hundreds of areas to explore, and many different shops to visit. From city centre department stores through to individual designer boutiques, and from flea markets to strip malls, every possible kind of shop and shopping experience is available in Los Angeles.
Top 5 Los Angeles Shopping Areas
Rodeo Drive
This world famous designer shopping area is perhaps the most upmarket street in the whole of the USA. If you want the latest in fashion, then the 3 blocks of Rodeo Drive is the place to head. You can visit the main boutiques for a number of top designers including Gucci, Armani, Dior, Valentino, Chanel and Bijan amongst others. There are also a couple of shopping centres such as Rodeo Collection, and a Nieman Marcus department store.
Fashion District
The Fashion District in downtown LA is one of the most famous shopping areas in the city. It offers a massive choice of modern fashions alongside retro styles. Aside from the many small boutiques and ubiquitous high street names like Macy's, highlights include the CaliforniaMart on Olympic Avenue, where more than 10,000 brands are on offer, and the unique New Mart close by, where you can find the work of new and up-and-coming local designers.
L.A. Jewellery District
A highlight of any shopping tour of Los Angeles, this compact area is located downtown, and is the place to head for watches, jewellery, and precious stones. Most well known jewellers have their main showrooms in the area, and it pays to leave plenty of time to explore all of the shops.
Sunset Plaza & Sunset Strip
Sunset Plaza is the South Californian home of cutting edge fashion, and is the place to go for the latest club fashions and sports wear. Nearby Sunset Strip has a good selection of trendy shops and boutiques, but is best known for its nightclubs and billboards featuring enormous posters of showbiz stars.
Montana Avenue
With well over a hundred and fifty designer boutiques and department stores, Montana Avenue in Santa Monica is the place to head for small boutiques and luxury goods. An added attraction of Montana Avenue is its relative quietness compared to Rodeo Drive, and the fact that there are plenty of sidewalk cafes where you can enjoy a coffee in between shopping.
