Relax and soak up the sun, or go surfing on one of Los Angeles stunning beaches

If the Southern California lifestyle of sun, sea, and sand appeals to you, make sure you take some time to head for the beaches around Los Angeles. Here on miles of golden shores, you can enjoy the fantastic weather, soak up the sun, or get active with some of the many water sports available including surfing, sailing, and jet-skiing.

Los Angeles itself is so large that there are several different beach areas, each with its own character and attractions.

Long Beach

Here you can find some of the best yachting marinas in the city, explore the historic Queen Mary ship, lie back on the sands and sunbathe, or visit the shops on Ocean Boulevard.

Marina del Rey

Marina del Rey is a lovely area with a great reputation. There are a small yachting marina, and beaches to lie on. Playa del Rey is a beautiful spot surrounded by parkland.

Dockweiler State Beach

Close to LAX airport, and offering clean safe water. Gets a bit crowded, especially at the weekend, and is popular with families.

Santa Monica State Beach

One of the most famous beach areas in Los Angles, Santa Monica stretches along the coast to the famous Malibu stretch of sand. There is a traditional beach side amusement park, with a Ferris wheel and roller coaster, and regular evening concerts to entertain you in the summer.

Venice City Beach

Featuring the iconic boardwalk, and famous fishing pier, Venice Beach, Los Angeles has a real bohemian feel, and is a great place to spend a day. Muscle Beach has a famous outdoor body building gym if you're feeling energetic, and there are miles of shops to explore if the sun gets too hot.

Will Rogers State Beach

This 3 mile long sandy beach is famous for it's surfing, and has a great location near to Temescal Canyon. Activities include beach volleyball, and there is a popular outdoor gym available too.
